Breakfast By The River

Today was one of those rare days where myself and the husband (Andy) got to go off on our own and have a little one on one time.

We drove and dropped the kids off at school and decided to drive the extra few miles and visit one of our favourite places Uppermill.

Uppermill is about 12 minutes drive from where we live and for Andy it is like a second home. He has spent many an hour fishing in the rivers there since he was a young boy and knows all the best places to walk and fish....not to mention the shortcuts.

It was a beautiful Autumn day, the air was crisp, cold but the sun shone through brightly. I wore my winter coat for the first time in months and something about that gave me such a rush of excitement.

After parking up we strolled down to our favourite riverside cafe Kitty's. It's a small place very warm, cosy and inviting. We always have lovely service when we go, not to mention amazing food that never disappoints.

As the weather was cold and we didn't sit down to eat until just gone 11 I decided the only thing to do was order the Full English AKA Kitty's Breakfast, I also ordered a pot of English Breakfast Tea and Andy opted for a traditional sausage on toast with the obligatory hot chocolate with fresh cream and marshmallows.

We sat by the window and as I sipped my tea I watched the river as if I had never seen it before, normally when we dine out I am more concerned with if the kids have napkins or making sure their spaghetti doesn't wind up on the floor.

Something about today was different, the leaves were orange-red & golden, the wind was blowing through the trees and as we sat the odd few leaves began to fall into the water. I was able to give full attention to my surroundings and truly be in the moment and appreciate it.

It was a really gorgeous setting to just watch the world go by whilst we caught up with blissful, mindless chatter.
Andrew and I live such busy lives with 2 small children so it was nice to relax and reconnect over an uninterrupted meal. We adore being parents to Harrison & Layla so much but we also love to spend quality time with each other where we can actually pay attention to what each other is saying..and for a few moments no one else matters.

After our not so healthy breakfast we decided to walk it off and stay out in the fresh air. We walked all along the river and Andy showed me some of his favourite fishing spots as he reminisced about when he used to come down here with his friends and family. He is quite the impressive fisherman even today and tries to go at least once to twice a month...I think it is good for him to do something he loves so much especially when he is so good at it.

On the walk back to the car I came across this charming Red Phone box and I couldn't resist taking a snap, you don't see them very often and I just loved how bold and bright it was.

The other thing I love about Uppermill is that it is such a friendly place, the several people you walk by will say "good morning" and it just feels like the people there are proud of their village and want people to feel welcome.

I had such a lovely day today and I wouldn't have wanted to spend it with anyone else, it was perfect and even though I missed having our children with us, it was nice to spend some quality time with Andy.
